Finnish Committee for Research Data (FCRD, in Finnish Data-asiain kansalliskomitea, DAK) is a cooperative body under The Council of Finnish Academies and Open Knowledge Finland. Its purpose is to link national scientific communities to international umbrella organisations.
Based on FCRD’s rules (unofficial translation): “the task of the Committee is to promote the status of open data and open science in Finland, as well as support and improve the usability of research data and best promote best practices in data management. The Committee serves as a collaborative body between the domestic and the international scientific communities in the field.”
In addition to international activities, FCRD can arrange events in Finland that support aforementioned activities – alone or in collaboration with other partners, and participate in relevant working group activities or discussions.
Representatives from the FCRD have participated actively in different international bodies. Currently Finland has representatives in the international umbrella organization’s (CODATA) executive committee and in the International Data Policy Committee (IDPC). In 2023 a representative from the committee participated in formulating the national guidelines on the Openness of research materials and methods. The data committee has also contributed e.g. in writing the Data citation roadmap for Finland.
