Open Knowledge Finland launches a new networking initiative together with its partners in the Nordic and Baltic countries. OK North is a collaboration between OKFI and Open Knowledge Network chapters in Sweden and Estonia, Creative Commons Sweden and Norway, and OpenDenmark.
Network meeting and regional dialogue
The first meeting of the network will be held as a pre-event of Oulu Löyly on 7 June, 2026.
What could this network make possible? That question will be at the heart of the first meeting, and we will be able to deepen the conversation and turn early ideas into concrete possibilities during Oulu Löyly 8–10 June. Register for Oulu Löyly if you haven’t!
Knowledge as Critical Digital Infrastructure
Wikimedia Foundation and the Open Knowledge Foundation are working on a joint initiative Knowledge as Critical Digital Infrastructure: A Call to Action for a Resilient Future to rethink open knowledge as critical digital infrastructure (CDI). The goal is to propose public policy responses to ensure that digital knowledge commons — the shared, publicly accessible systems that allow information to be freely and openly created and distributed — receive the same strategic attention and investment, and benefit from strong governance, as essential public services such as water or electricity.
We will host an in-person discussion about this initiative during the meetup. We also invite Nordic Wikimedia chapter representatives who are convening in Oulu for the Wikimedia Northern Europe Meeting.
